Banned for Leaking

THIS is an interesting tale. A LibDem MSP has been banned from sittibg in the Scottish Parliament for leaking information to the press. Where will it all end? Just think what would happen if Westminster MPs were subject to the same rule. The place would be empty!

And Prescott would become PM by default, as he is almost certainly the only senior member of the current Government who has never done it!

"LibDem MSP has been banned from sittin gin the Scottish Parliament"

A Freudian slip rather than typo. surely it should have read Madame Ecosse (Winnie Ewing) has been banned for sipping gin in the Scottish Parliament

'Open Government', it's called.
Still, they're only following in the footsteps of Brussels, which is well on the way to imposing Mushroom Government on any poor sod it can claim authority over.

I'm sorry that this comment won;t be funny but guess that you have a less restrictive policy on that front than guido! There are good reasons for the ban. Pringle is on the Justice committee of the Parliament which has been investigating the use of fingerprint evidence - following a failed prosecution against a police officer where the Scottish Fingerprint service found conclusive evidence subsequently disproved by other experts. Pringle has leaked (for the second time) details about the enquiry. The subject matter has been subject to litigation, and this time Pringle leaked a confidential legal report which may have formed the basis of criminal proceedings or other legal action (negligence potentially). Incidentally, Pringle's ban may have an impact on another of his endeavours, a members bill (Scottish Parliament equiavlent to a PMB) to tax plastic bags in Scotland. He is sponsoring the bill and it is due to be considered by the Parliament in the next week or so.

You forgot to mention the other part of his punishment - according to the photograph he's been incarcerated in a rabbit hutch.

Likewise a journalist and his editor in Ireland are under threat of a 300,000 euro fine and two years in jail for refusing to reveal the source of their splash this week which has led to the crisis in government over payments the Taoiseach received in the 1990s

I am in favour of open government and genuine freedom to information. But there are sometimes when it is wrong to leak stuff - especially regarding issues which are sub-judace and could influence legal proceeding!

Since he's a Libdem cannot he not be banned for life for habitual lying?

And that's a disgraceful comment about Winnie Ewing. She prefers whiskey.

In terms of things north of the border Broon's inheritance appears to be built on sand and spin about his so-called stronghold.

Labour was rocked by a landslide by-election defeat uncomfortably close to Chancellor Gordon Brown's political homebase.
