While the Cats are Away...

Guido's down the pub and I'm at a wedding in North Norfolk. What a great day for the Police to hand over their files to the CPS. Oh well, back to the wedding breakfast... :(

Eh?

Have you actually verified this story Iain?

It's on the BBC

Anyone got a pdf of the 216 page report Yates has given to the CPS?
It would make a fascinating read.....can't wait for it to be publicly released....

Anonymous said...

Will the CPS (crony prevarication service) actually have the bollocks to prosecute anyone?

I very much doubt it.

They seem far less independent and than the honourable and public-spritied Yates, much more politicised and far less determined to face down criticism.

Wouldn't surprise me if over the next few weeks we hear; "after careful consideration of the file presented by Mr. Yates and his team, we have decided there is insufficient evidence to press charges against any individual."

I'm not holding my breath.

I wonder if Nu Labour will mention it in their local election literature?

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23393352-details/Dramatic+move+on+%27cash+for+honours%27+probe/article.do

The potentially explosive police file on the 'cash for honours' probe was today handed over to prosecutors.

The findings of the Met's Special Investigations Unit will now be handled by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Charges could be brought over the alleged sale of peerages to Labour-supporting businessmen.

...

As is usual in complex cases, the CPS has hired a leading barrister, in this case the Treasury counsel David Perry QC, to give an assessment of the evidence and whether charges should be brought...

... police believe action could come quickly as the CPS has been closely involved in the inquiry to date.

20th July 2007: CPS to Yates. "Unfortunately the papers you say you sent us on 20th April cannot be traced and the person who was dealing with this case is no longer with us. It is possible that the papers were passed to the Crime Support Unit, but again we have no record of this. If you still wish us to pursue the matter after this length of time you will need to send us a duplicate set of papers. But we should warn you that we are exceptionally busy at this time of year, as a number of staff members are on annual and/or maternity and/or paternity leave, so there will inevitable be some delay in taking the matter further."

You should be ashamed of yourself Mr Dale.

As to the detractors saying nothing will happen. This has been a very public enquiry. If the CPS doesn't chage somemone, the whole shoddy crowd will forever have a cloud over their heads.

Blair may just get away with it, but guilt by association and the lingering doubts about a whitewash will taint his already besmirched "legacy" yet further.

Anonymous said...

parburypolitica, my sincere apologies.I should have made that post in my ironic font.

He was wrong when he said that Saddam had WMD. But, Saddam had them in the past and, as the Iraq Survey Group found, he and his sons would have had them in the future.

Blair has undergone more investigations than any other PM and has always been exonerated. The cash-for-honours investigation being the most recent.

He is a truthful and honest individual. Many people see the anti-Blair onslaught and, like yourself, just go along with it.

I prefer to make my mind up on the facts.

Blair said Sadam had ability to launch WMD in 45 minutes. Put as fact.

The actual intelligence stated 'weapons in 45 minutes?'.

No mention of WMD. Just W. And doubt over the 45 minutes.

He used evidence selectively to support a war he was emotionally committed to, did not weigh the evidence and then decide. It was a false prospectus.

There has been no investigation into the use of evidence and its representation by the government. If there were Blair would not be exonerated. But he decides if there is and, surprise, there has not been.

So, view these facts and then make up your mind sans blinkers.

Anonymous said...

Since this first began to develop, I have said that Tony and Fatty would do a moonlight flit. For the Blairina, I'd be surprised if it was the first.

I've said their future is in the Middle East for quite some time. Maybe they could take shelter in the Lebanon and Cherie could stand in as a rocket launcher.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 6:38: "Many people see the anti-Blair onslaught and, like yourself, just go along with it."

Sorry, but we all came to the same conclusion independently. There was a pro-blair onslaught when he first slithered into Downing St, and we didn't go along with that, having all our faculties about us.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:50

In the Commons debate that took us to war, not one person mentioned the 45 minutes. It is a re-writing of history to claim that this was the difference between us going to war or not.

You are also wrong about the W vs WMD - see below. Just another example of a Blair-hater letting their prejudices blind them to the truth. Blair acted in good faith.

Actual quote from the dossier:
"(Iraq) has military plans for the use of chemical and biological weapons, some of which could be ready within 45 minutes of an order to use them".

Also:
"The Iraqi military may be able to deploy chemical or biological weapons within 45 minutes of an order to do so."

Tony Blair said in the Commons:
"(Saddam) has existing and active military plans for the use of chemical and biological weapons, which could be activated within 45 minutes, including against his own Shia population".

Anonymous 7:20 - I have watched Blair like a hawk since the day he got in. I have watched him telling lies. I have watched his self-aggrandising behaviour. I have watched the excitement in his eyes as he mixed around with rock stars. I have watched him flattering rich people in order to get invitations to stay with rich people and meet other rich people. I have watched him slither around the feet of George Bush. I have watched him, a fantasist, dressing up in costumes and imagining himself in a role. The very, very, very tight trousers and Western boots on Mr Bush's ranch, for example. The floor-length black astrakhan coat he had made for swanking around the Winter Palace with Putin. (Alastair Campbell grabbed it and forbade him to touch it.) Riding a bike around ... oh, was it Amsterdam? He could barely keep his wiggly balance, but it was a PROP! The layers of Man Tan as he posed next to real heroes, and a tank, in Iraq.

I have watched him put on fake accents on Richard and Judy's couch and other eminent venues.

Blair mislead Parliament. That is a crime. Blair has lied to voters on too many occasions to bother enumerating. Blair has sold peerages to fill the coffers of the bankrupt socialist party. (He didn't do this without the expectations of grand rewards, by the way.)

I have watched, and judged, Tony Blair every step of the way.

Anonymous said...

"Teflon Tony" has managed to resist everything that has been thrown at him by his enemies for the past 10 years - quite an achievement, I think we can all agree.

His problem in the near future is not what his enemies throw at him, but what his erstwhile friends (Turner and Levy) are prepared to do, in order to save their own skins.

He may not have been interviewed under caution - yet but once Tony's out of number 10, his power of patronage will have gone and then we'll see how many friends he has left.

Roll on May....

Anyone for Tennis - I don't believe he'll go in May. As you rightly note, as long as he's in Downing St, he has he power of patronage. Once gone, he has nothing and no one to depend on.

By all means, make fun, use irony and argue with passion. But remember that you're in the company of lots of other people who post on blogs like this because they want their views to have a fair hearing.

If you can buy into this concept, it will be nice to hear your views in the future.

Big John - well, the constitution of France, if it still exists, says Chirac can't be tried while still in office, but I don't know whether that's in office in France or in office any damn' where. The thing is, he has nowhere to go unless he can claim asylum somewhere.

Closest to Paris would be Francophone Tunisia or Morocco, and certainly they would have him because he has billions. (Courtesy the surprised shareholders in Credit Lyonais.) Things could be flown down from Paris in a couple of hours, including dinner. Downside: including Mme Chirac.

I've long been fascinated about what this individual will do when he leaves office. He can't go to Martinique, etc., because they're all part of Metropolitan France.

I would not fall down in amazement if he went to Quebec.

I share your distaste. I have a cousin who is wheelchair bound (cerebral palsy) and my better half is god-mother to a nice little lad who even more disabled.

Don't think that all posters on "right wing" blogs represent the views of all right-wing viewers and bloggers.

Most of the visitors to Iain's and Guido's sites are not "hate filled idiots". In fact, anyone who behaves that way tends to be dealt with pretty quickly.

It would be very wrong to think that the political left have the monopoly on the high moral ground.

It's still a lonely pursuit, sweets.

People here aren't keen on Trots, Marxism, Stalinism, one-worlderism, the UN, (can just anyone stand for PM of Britain? If so, how about John Howard or John Bolton - fine spirits, both)

Anyone for Tennis opines, regarding remarks about the disabled, etc. - which actually don't tend to appear on conservative blogs because we have other issues, so why is he obsessing? - writes:

"Most of the visitors to Iain's and Guido's sites are not 'hate filled idiots'. In fact, anyone who behaves that way tends to be dealt with pretty quickly."

See, I don't even like this sentence because it implies a schoolma'armish attitude to the thoughts of others. Why be so eager to "deal with" people "pretty quickly"?

Jerks tend not to be responded to on civilised sites. It's a self-happening. Jerks are boring. To say they "get dealt with pretty quickly" makes me feel sick.

The famous British thought police is still admired, apparently, and people are apparently still judged too weak to operate without the wonderful British thought police on the alert.

The posters on this and other sites spend much of your time de-humanising politicians. This leads to the obscene posts suchas the one on Guido's site.

You cannot just wash your hands of all responsibility.

I suspect the posting remarking on the disabled was a response to the rather schoolmarmish post by chis paul at 11.13 on Guidos. As we know this site attracts independent minded characters who do not like to be told what to say or think.

Why would anyone be so strangely mentally disconnected that they would post a response to a comment on Guido's site on Iain's site? If they were that daft, how did they know of the other site's web address?

I'm sorry, but these are blogs for politically engaged people, not therapy. I will not be contributing to "care in the web community".

You mean the people who post here reference Guido's site?

Good morning Iain - get yourself a copy of The Times or the The Daily Mail this morning.

Is my eyesight playing tricks on me, or has the offensive posting on Guido's site at 11.57 mysteriously disappeared?

Be careful Mike...

It may be broad daylight in Britain, but it's still night-time in America and Verity won't have climbed back into her coffin just yet...

"Mike" has so much personality and is fizzing with so many clever, insightful thoughts that he is just too big for one identity. When he is at a loss for a name to post additional drivel under, he chooses "Anonymous".

I mentioned yesterday that "Mike" was cautioned by at least one other prominent blog as this isn't the first blog on which he has chosen to squat and fling his poo around. "Mike" writes: "Name the blog please and If (sic) you are unable to name the blog apologise."

Not just a chav, but delusional. Who are you? The CPS? I am not "unable" to name the blog. I am refusing. If Iain wants to know, I'll email him.

"mike" is a cyber flasher , its the same mentality that leads a certain type of male to expose his genitals to women in order to achive a perverse thrill .
They are best dealt with in the same manner, A sneer followed by haughty indifference.
They all have small cocks and big hard drives full of porn

Verity:3.39am.
Is it any wonder I am undergoing therapy? I have just lived through 10 years with Tony Blair as PM you tit. By the way, as you live in Mexico shouldn't you be trying your luck at the border with the US? With luck some snipers will be waiting.
